There are several articles out today about a Neilson study that has some very interesting data: The average teenager sends more than 3,000 texts per month. That’s more than six texts per waking hour.
These articles would make for interesting reading and activities in math classrooms. Here are the links to a couple:
Now I have a 14-year-old daughter (Elizabeth) and this information made me curious about her texting habits so I reviewed the last five months of our Verizon bill. Here is (or is it are?) some real-world data:
The Number of Texts Sent by Elizabeth (June-October, 2010)
June (670), July (3525), August (1595), September (3143), October (4110)
That is an average of 2,608 texts per month–below the average determined by the Neilson Survey.
In this case, I hope she stays below average!
FYI: I used Lingo 2 Word http://www.lingo2word.com/index.php to convert the title of this entry from English to text lingo. Give it a try!
